AAHPERD/District Awards 2012—Open Call
It was moved and approved at the April 2009 Board of Governors meeting that the following national awards will be initiated through an open call to all AAHPERD members. Any AAHPERD member who has not previously received one of these awards is eligible to apply or be nominated. All applicants or nominators will submit application materials using national association forms [available on the national associations websites] to the Programs Office at AAHPERD headquarters by October 15.
•Adapted Physical Educator of the Year – AAPAR
•Dance Educator of the Year (2 levels—K-12 and College/University)—NDA
•Health Education Professional of the Year School K-12 (HEPYS) –AAHE
•Physical Education Teacher of the Year (3 levels—Elementary, Middle School, Secondary)—NASPE
A preliminary review to verify membership and ensure completeness will be conducted by the Programs Office. All candidate submission materials will be sent to the respective districts by November 1.
The districts will select one individual in each category for District recognition and as a finalist for national consideration by December 10. The national office will notify all candidates of their status by December 15.
NOTE: States are encouraged to submit nominations to AAHPERD by October 15 for state winners who are also current national members (or become national members). Districts that select before October 15 will also need to adjust the timing to provide equal opportunity for all candidates.
